Rebecca Mason named Chief Operating Officer & Chief Information Security Officer

In a move to streamline operations and strengthen internal talent development, First Shore has established the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO). Rebecca L. Mason will be stepping in to fill this vital position, effective July 1, while concurrently maintaining her responsibilities as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).

Mason celebrates an impressive 21-year tenure with First Shore, over which time she has served in a variety of increasingly responsible positions including CSR, savings counselor, loan processor, and Vice President. As CISO, she manages information security regulatory compliance, disaster recovery protocols, and comprehensive policy development. Alongside her technology team, she has deployed industry-leading security measures to safeguard customer information in an increasingly high-risk digital landscape.

As COO, Mason will now oversee operations for the association, working closely with branch management to maximize operational efficiency while refreshing and standardizing employee onboarding processes, staff training, and professional development programs.

An Eastern Shore native out of Pocomoke, Mason is a graduate of Holly Grove Christian School, Wor-Wic Community College and Salisbury University.

“I’m thrilled to take on this opportunity!” Mason said. “So many components of day-to-day business operations have been digitized – it’s a natural fit to bring everything together under one umbrella. I’m excited to continue facilitating a modern, secure experience for our customers, our team members, and our community as a whole.”

Sarah Ward Promoted to Assistant Vice President

Sarah L. Ward, CPA, has been officially promoted to Assistant Vice President, also effective July 1. In her role as Controller for the association, Ward uses her more than 12 years of experience to oversee First Shore’s accounting department, playing a critical role in financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and regulatory compliance. She is committed to improving financial transparency, streamlining accounting processes, and supporting sound financial decision-making across the organization.

Born and raised on Smith Island, Ward is a graduate of Salisbury University’s Accounting program, going on to earn her Master of Business Administration (MBA). A lifelong learner, she consistently prioritizes deepening her banking-specific accounting knowledge while maintaining membership with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Ward also volunteers her time in the community by serving in leadership positions across local organizations, including service with Salisbury University’s Career Advisory Board for the Perdue School of Business and by acting as Treasurer for United Way of the Lower Eastern Shore’s Board of Directors.

“It’s an honor to work for an organization that puts its members and community first,” said Ward. “One of the things I appreciate most about First Shore is knowing that the work we do takes place right here on the Eastern Shore, directly benefitting our customers and the local economy. It’s rewarding to be part of a team that’s always looking for ways to improve and better serve the people who place their trust in us.”

A Commitment to Growth

“Please join us in celebrating the hard work, dedication, and leadership that Rebecca and Sarah bring to First Shore every day,” said Diane Turner, President and CEO. “Their collective years of experience – both within First Shore and across the Eastern Shore as a whole – and dedicated commitment to our customers ensure that we remain a strong, secure, reliable financial partner: whatever the next chapter may bring.”
